SERIOUS ROBOTS DOES IT AGAIN FOR SONY Raleigh-Based Post Production Company Edits in HD for Sony Bravia 007 Spot RALEIGH, N.C. (April 10, 2007) – Serious Robots, one of the Southeast’s top commercial post production companies, completed another spot for Sony – this time to promote the new Bravia LCD HDTV line. With the highly anticipated Casino Royale movie just weeks away from its opening, the spot cleverly combined the introduction of the Sony Bravia with a trailer for the feature film. In the spot, two strangers – a man and woman – are drawn to the Sony Style store window featuring a 007 promo on the new Bravia HDTV. “Nice picture,” they remark in unison. There’s instant chemistry between the two as they watch the action-packed clips from Casino Royale that follow. The voiceover pays off the tie-in: “Women want him. Men want to be him. On November 17th, Bravia won’t be the only thing men and women agree on.” Serious Robots’ editor Scott Roy combined existing footage and dailies from the trailer to re-cut the open and seamlessly bring the viewer into the movie action. After the offline was complete, Picture Production Company (PPC) and CO3 sent Serious Robots HD elements to conform and finish the spot in HD. “The challenge in online was to take the un color-corrected footage from PPC and match the look and feel of the beautiful transfer CO3 did for the open, along with the screen replacements,” said Roy. He used Serious Robots’ Avid Nitris to finish the spots in both HD and SD. “Replacing TV screens and monitors is not a simple task,” he said. “The beauty of having these great tools at our fingertips was it enabled us to color correct, track, paint, roto and composite all in one box.” Serious Robots collaborated with L.A.-based Shine to re-work the timing and size of the graphic elements for the end. “We’ve enjoyed a great working relationship with Sony and their creatives,” said Roy, who has worked on seven Sony spots in the past year. “We’ve come to understand their expectations and are able to provide high-quality HD editing expertise and quick response.” Serious Robots, one of the Southeast’s top commercial post production companies provides all aspects of animation, editorial, post and visual effects to companies in the commercial, music video and other industries.
